Even two thirds is a terrible return. Hell, even two seconds would be a meh return.

Why would you trade Tarasenko for so little return on Wednesday, when you can wait 2 days and maybe see the market shift in your favor? Its not like Ottawa was going to get less for him on Friday...just an epically stupid trade by Ottawa. And frankly, Vegas is also a loser here, given they gave up more for Mantha...

If Tarasenko didn't want to play for Vegas it's irrelevant what they paid. Full NTC that you can't just force a guy to waive

I understand that Ottawa had absolutely no leverage here, but at some point a GM has to establish his credibility and backbone. I'm not one for trying cases in the media, but Staios should have stood pat, and in response to the first question from a reporter after the trade deadline asking for him to comment on why he didn't trade Tarasenko, tell the truth and say "the player refused to waive his NTC and the GM of the only team to which he would go refused to make a good-faith offer for him. I will never deal with that GM ever again." Staois' dignity and reputation are worth more than two thirds.

I guess there were more than 5 acceptable ways to pay for Tarasenko?

So ummm... is Ottawa EVER going to have even a decent GM? I'm honestly surprised every team is not constantly barraging them with stupid trade offers, just to see if one sticks with these dummies. I have a lot of sympathy for the people of Ottawa, and I've never been there.

Two 2nds you could kinda justify a little. This is just embarrassing.

Can we stop trying to push the pro hockey group content on this site? Their overall scores, that are now displayed next to players name on trades, are terribly measured/calculated. There’s not even a source for what they are determining goes into each metric that contributes to these scores. They appear to be completely subjective.

Let's compare what Ottawa got for Tarasenko versus what St. Louis got for Tarasenko.

To see how badly Ottawa got fleeced here ...

For the record, I think Niko Mikkola, Sammy Blais and Hunter Skinner were nothing more than spare parts at last year's deadline.

So, this is what it comes down to:

2024 4th that upgrades to a 2026 3rd if the Panthers win the Cup ...... versus ...... 2024 4th that upgrades to a 2024 3rd if the Rangers made the Playoffs

2025 3rd from the Panthers ....... versus ....... the #29 overall pick in 2023

Tarasenko had a NTC and a cap hit of 3.75 million when he was traded by St. Louis with 50% retention.

Tarasenko had a NTC and a cap hit of 2.5 million when he was traded by Ottawa with 50% retention.

As a Sens fan, this was a bit difficult for me to type this out.

We didn't match what St. Louis got for Tarasenko or come close to doing so.

But I just wanted to give my two cents anyway like I always do.

I would not be surprised if Chychrun was sold off for a couple of seconds at this point ...

Congratulations to Bill Zito and the Florida Panthers for winning this trade.

Well done.

That's me, I'm all the experts.

Mantha netting a first just makes this trade even more embarrassing.

Because obviously Tarasenko had made it clear that he would ONLY waive his NTC for Florida. At that point, just take what you can get.

This is what happens when a NMC asks for a trade, this team or nothing.

I don't think the Sens got fleeced, they just got the maximum that was offered to them.
Is Tarasenko such a difference maker??? Looks like the Rangers were fleeced last TDL

Damn looks like a player being able to control their destination significantly lowers a teams leverage. I wonder if this applies to any other fanbases trying to convince me that a full NMC doesn't negatively impact value @calgaryfans

Most definitely a fair deal. Tarasenko has full control where he wanted to go, and only wanted to move to Florida.

Tarasenko had a full NMC and would only go to Florida. Not surprising.

I understand that Tarasenko had NTC. So Ottawa GM Staois probably had to decided. 1. You try to get something on him and be happy what you got or 2. You will play hard wait to trade deadline, where you could get more or less. 3. Or just be boss and not let players run over him and lose Taresenko free.

I do believe he wanted just best for Ottawa and team got something back on guy who had NTC. Ofc its clear win for FLA and personally i feel he should have been bit hard and play bit risky, but its easy to say when i am not Senators fan.
