I always said Allen will cost a 3rd+

But I love this deal for both teams.

People are gonna give the Devils flack but this is a great guy for them to grab.

Montreal getting a 3rd (possibly a 2nd) for our 3rd string goalie is absolutely insane. It makes sense for NJ, but they had all of the leverage, and Montreal still got value

Montreal are limiting their options with that salary retention (having their 3 slots now used), but the fact that they got a 3rd round pick which could potentially even become a 2nd rounder, yeah, that's a great return for Allen.

Went Wughes got nearly as much for Manahan and Allen than Calgary got for Hanifin, or half what SJ got for Hertl.

LOL

Damn, Kent kinda bent Fitzgerald over here. Allen was the Habs 3rd string and they got a good pick out of him. Solid stuff

Dude that much retention costs a 3rd in general lol. It'll be a win for the Habs if Allen plays 40 next year tho

He's the best goalie on the Devils. His saves above expected is -0.138 per 60 minutes, while Jersey's previous best was Akira Schmid at -0.197.

Back during the Christmas Break, I made an AGM involving a Jake Allen trade to the Devils with 50% retention.

It was based on the trade that brought Allen to the Habs in the first place with a team basically paying a 3rd for Allen.

https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/4781081

And low and behold, the Habs are probably receiving a 3rd from the Devils here.

With the Habs retaining 50% on Allen.

This trade made my day awesome face

Fair deal.

Does the second condition mean that if the Devils trade Allen to playoff team the pick still upgrades?

Allen doesn’t get enough credit given how poor our defence has been. He’ll hopefully do better in Jersey.

A 3rd is a perfectly decent return for a goalie.

Yeah I noticed that, the wording is weird. Could you imagine if NJ trades Allen to a bottom feeder at next years TD so the pick doesn't upgrade?

Yeah, he's better than his stats show. He's easily NJ's best goalie, and might actually help them make the playoffs this year.

Fair Price considering the retention, but Allen & Kaapo aren’t going to do any better in NJD than Vitek did for them, they’re just cheaper

I wonder if this means Markstrom is no longer of interest to NJD this off-season or if Allen could possibly back up for Markstrom next year!?
