Too much money for a Goalie at this age.

Feel like Holland could have let this scenario play out longer and see what VGK was going to do plus at least 500k to 1M too much for Smith regardless

Don't tell me that Dell wouldn't sign for the same money... He would be much better option for the Oilers

They really missed their opportunity to secure their position in net. Probably one of the teams that really got screwed by the changes removing the negotiation window before free agency. In other years they'd likely have known ahead of time that they were out on Markstrom and would have been able to change directions. In this case bu the time the decision was in for Markstrom, most of the big names in net were scooped up.

All the great moves cancelled out by this blunder.....something something is the definition of insanity.....

Horrible decision, Tippett clearly has a Blindspot, Holland deferring to his coach and ignoring reality. Forsberg is a better bet at 2 G in 2020 than the ancient and eroding Smith....

Never understood the Holland hire, and it continues to baffle me to this day. He hasn't improved the problems with this team at all. In fact, he's doubled down on defensive and goaltending ineptitude.

First: this should only have been resorted to in a week from now after all options were through. He was not going to sign anywhere else any time soon.
Second: the fact he gets more than Lundquist is lunacy.

He was the best option left imo. The only other options would’ve been Anderson, Schneider, Dell, Howard, Miller, Domingue, Hutchinson

He isn't done. Still has Bear and Larsson to sign and has no cap space...

I think the Barrie and Turris adds are brilliant.

Dell, Miller or Hutchinson would have worked just as well, but at near half the cap hit. Maybe Smith brings something to the locker room, some kind of fight/aggression missing among the top players, I don't know.

Larsson is signed...do you mean Lagesson? Lagesson is league minimum. Also Klef is LTIR so that's 4.17 mil. Plenty of space for Bear and Lagesson and probably some quite good PTO's or cheap LD, much like the Pysyk deal. Perhaps Koekkoek.

This is a horrible deal. I rather would have gotten Dell. Smith is one of the most inconsistent goalies in the NHL. Watch Tippett play him more than Koskinen again.

Hmm

Smith and Koskinen vs. Markstrom + Rittich

Battle of Alberta feels one sided now

bruh we litterally got to resign anthanasiou still. We got prospects such as Olivier Rodrigue,Stuart Skinner and Dylan Wells that can take the backup spot away from Mr Smith. Mike is 38 years old, had a .902 sv% and a 2.95 GAA in the 19-20 season. This money could be used to resign our RFAs and UFAs such as anthanasiou and others.

None of the goalies you listed would be a viable NHL tandem goalie. I don't love the Smith signing but he is better option then those 3 at this point of their careers plus Forsberg (guy we signed yesterday) would be first in line for a call up.
