Why is Staal on the list?

For the Canes, I would argue it’s been Turbo this year. It’s been a slow season for Turbo offensively, and whilst he has been great defensively, not having him be his usual self hurts. Staal has been Mr. Clutch himself, and for those who say KK has the worst contract, while offensively it was a really slow start, his defensive worth is easily worth more than what he is being paid. That goes for Staal as well.

Agreed, Vrana comes off the books after next season if he doesn't bounce back. We'll be paying Chairot 4m to be a 3rd pair dman for the next 3 years...

DeMelo?! He's one of the best contracts...should be Schmidt or Wheeler as said above.

I have to disagree with Panarin & Gudbranson.

Panarin still makes the players around him so much better. Granted he only has 12 goals thus far, but he is still more than point per game player and creates so much space on the ice for his linemates.
As for the Jackets, by far I would vote Elvis over Gudbranson at this point in time. $5.4M backup goaltender is a much bigger liability since Guds is still brining physical presence and mentoring for the youngins.

Come on now, Demelo is playing a lot better than 3 million, and is one of the best contracts on the team. The worst has to be Schmidt. Wheeler only has one year left, so I'd argue for those who think his contact is the worst, at least he only has one year left; Schmidt has two years left, making two million more than Demelo playing bottom pair minutes.

If we're talking about this season then I would say Pionk as he is playing well below what a $5.875 million player should be doing. If he was being paid $3million he would still be underperforming but I don't think it would be the worst contract on the team.

Honestly, I absolutely considered Gibson here with as little bias as possible. But realistically, at this point at least, what is his cap hit/roster spot affecting? It's not holding anyone back...it doesn't put the team into cap hell, it expires when he's 33, and realistically, it's far more likely that he's splitting time with Dostal over the last couple of years of it (As long as his development keeps going well).

With Silfverberg, IMO you're losing a roster spot for a young guy coming up. That's why I chose him.

Hard to call Johnsson a bad contract. He did his job and it expires at the end of the year. There really aren't any bad contracts in Jersey right now, except arguably Palat
