Betting on Smith being available at 6OA seems dubious

CBJ says no, the one thing that has always eluded this franchise is a star center. There's exactly 2 slam dunks in this draft class, so if the Jackets get lucky and actually land a top-2 pick...it's going to take more than that.

Any other year (besides the McEichel draft) the smart thing would be to take that trade, but this year? No, probably not.

(accidental quote because I'm dumb)

Fantilli is too good, I wouldn't give up a chance at him at all.

Would you rather have Jack Eichel for 9+ years or Pavel Zacha + like PLD for the same time?

I'm in the camp that Smith won't be there at #6. The choices at #6 will probably be Michkov or Benson.

I don't believe you're actually a CBJ fan because theres not a single Columbus fan that would pass up a chance to watch Gaudreau and Fantilli on their top line together for the next ~6 years

I'd maybe hesitate and take Carlsson over Fantilli depending on how they interview and the combine, but certainly not this deal.

Arizona declines easily. I threw around the same idea this time last year when the Devils had 2oa and Columbus had 6+12 or whichever it was, and it was firmly rejected.

Not sure anyone trading out of top 4 this year, probably take quite a haul to get into top 4 this year, depending on lottery, but guessing those 4 teams in need of a franchise changer.

Leo Carlsson might honestly be my pick over fantilli, but it'd be SO close. Really would come down the interviews of them and how their mindsets are.

I trust Jarmo to make the right decision.

Last year wasn’t as too heavy. Jiricek could very well be better than nemec so adding mateychuk definitely wouldn’t have been worth it in hindsight

The trade value favors colombus, as the 2OA is worth the 6OA and the 16th OA in a fair deal. In order to move up, (make it worth CBJ's while) the 6OA and 12OA work, but no need for the future 2nd.

Now for the Yotes, they need to see Fantilli as their guy, and I don't think there in that much of a rush, they can afford to be a bit patient and Fantilli seems like he will go somewhere that needs that #1 Center in the lineup this coming season.

In order to move up to with 1or 2, in this scenario 2, would cost at least 6 OA, 12 OA, and Barrett Hayton. That’s being conservative…

I think the consensus is no.
You didn’t clarify if this is pre-lottery or post-lottery.
If this trade is made prior to the draft lottery, the prize very well could be Bedard… so probably a big no pre-lottery.
After the lottery, if these positions are set, I still lean no, as Fantilli is the sized 1/2 C the Jackets are coveting, especially since Dubois found the exit sign out of Columbus.

The “2OA” was me clarifying post lottery
