Am I weird for liking this deal? Kampf fit in with the Leafs beautifully and has been our best penalty killer since he got here. He has been consistently good and paves the way for his linemates to succeed. When he had Mikheyev and Kase on his wings, they looked fantastic.

2.4 is a little rich, but I still like this deal. Glad Kampf is sticking around

Huge overpay for an overated 4th Line Center. I think 2M is about max you should spend on a 4th Liner, and TOR has too be very careful with how they use their funds if they want too have the depth to keep up with other teams in the playoffs and manage keeping their stars.

The term is also disgusting.

Not the best contract, but happy to keep Kampf around.

Edit: And it typical Toronto fashion, Leafs twitter is losing their ****ing minds. Going to be a long summer.

so many people here will reveal how little they know about defense and two-way contribution
kampf is a black hole offensively but does so much to shelter teammates

Too much money. Too much term. He's playing on their 4th line. You can't spend this much money on your fourth line, especially with three players making over $10 million a season.

Remember we were wrong about his extension before

200K to much but hey hes a very good bottom 6 defensive C who will probs give yah 30 points a season and do his job well

Decent signing, I believe he's going to be their 3rd C now that Kerf is all but gone.
It is a bit more expensive than I predicted but at least there are no clauses.
I like having some term on guys, so it doesn't feel like a new team every year

I don't think it's that big of a deal imo, people are blowing it out of proportion. If he improves some in the future, this could be an amazing signing, he was a key member of TOR's PK which was their best I've seen in recent memory.

I think Kampf has been very good in Toronto, but I'm not sure they can afford to pay a guy in his role that much. It's similar to what Jarnkrok got last year, and I would argue that he's not worth as much as Jarnkrok, though he is a couple years younger than Jarnkrok was when he signed, and he's more of a known quantity having already spent two years with the team, so I guess it's fair.

Like the term, not the cap hit. Would have preferred if he got under 2 million a year but it isn’t too bad. Great defensive 4C with alright offensive upside

See, I like Kampf and the game he plays. I’m glad the Leafs are able to hold onto him for a reasonable term. That said, he isn’t irreplaceable to the point of paying him that AAV. You can find 1Bs to Kampf’s 1A for a lot less in my opinion.

But of course, it’s hard to judge this deal until we see how it rubs with the rest of the roster.

A lot of money for a guy who is a better 4C than a 3C.

It's only a $900k raise. This could look like a smart move or a pretty bad one really quick. I'm 50/50 on it

I like Kampf... a lot, so I like this deal... is over 2 a little rich? Yeah, but it's not 3-3.5 like I thought it could be

I like Kampf but this is a bit too much for a bit too long. Max I would've done would be 2 mill x 3 taking into account the leafs lack of center depth and how poor this FA class is.

Kampf is a good 4C he can hard match, and pk and win draws. There is value in that but his offence is basically nothing and his best hockey was played with Engvall who's gone.

The issue with a one dimensional player like this is that if that one dimension diminishes he'll be a league min quality player. Way more likely he under performs this deal than over performs. Optimistically he provides fair value

He's a 3C on 30/32 NHL teams last year... he just happened to be on one of those two teams last year

Especially with the lack of depth on centre right now, Kampf is probably their best option unless they wanted to go with Kerf again at centre...
