Older but established AHLer (Carcone) for a younger, overperforming ECHLer (Magwood). Well, certainly that's a trade. Likely amounts to nothing at the NHL level for both, but I guess you want as many little penny stocks as you can get if you're Ottawa, no matter how insignificant as it may seem at first glance. Also, Milwaukee always runs a competitive franchise, much like the Wolves, the Bears, and the Checkers, so veteran help is something that they like to acquire.
Don't know anything about Magwood, but he's younger and a natural right shot winger, which is a weakness organizationally for Ottawa.
As far as Carcone, I actually liked him a fair bit. Not tremendously talented, but he's feisty and competitive. Battles for pucks well and drives to the net hard, which are good assets for a smaller player like that. Wouldn't surprise me if Carcone is destined for the Preds Taxi Squad. He's good enough that there's some upside as a depth NHL player, and he's at an age where they don't have to worry if he's not playing every night.
I liked Carcone in Belleville last year. Worked as a linger for Logan Brown, and also fit nicely in a more depth role. Magwood is younger, so hopefully he can be better than that.
Well, this is so ridiculously Melnyk...puke...maybe I don't think that this trade is far for Ottawa after all. If you can't afford to pay $75K...uh...why do you still run an NHL franchise?

I was just messing around.
It's basically a left shot forward for a right shot forward.
