I should start a website/podcast and pretend I have sources and throw the dumb stuff in my mind against the wall. Never know, it could stick.

Steve Dangle once tried that with a Twitter account.

unfortunately it's been inactive since like 2017 but @SmartInsiderMan still exists, and you can see the sh*t he was saying then

Ducks massively screwed up Klingberg signing. Remember the, "worst case, we retain 50% and flip him for a 1st at the deadline." haha.

Days before the deadline were insane and extremely entertaining, and the actual deadline was the most boring one in recent memory. Lol

The saying "It doesn't matter how you start, it's more about how you finish"

People have short memory in that regard.

At least we had action for almost all of the past two weeks.

Anyone remember the deadline in 2016? Due to the concerns of Vegas joining, only one first rounder was traded during the entire year. That was by CHI, for acquiring @AndrewLadd

Going with 5 winners 5 losers

Winners

Boston
Toronto
Washington
St. Louis
New Jersey

Losers

Seattle
San Jose
Florida

LA can't be done right? Moving Quick to free up cap space ($6M) and just unloaded Wagner for future considerations (contract spot), so they have to bringing in 3-4 more playoff ringers, right?

I mean while they didnt get the best return for Chycrun they got at least assets for him, retaining in the Kane deal got them a 3rd I believe, Got a pick for Ghost, added Voracek and a pick along with Weber.

So I just put them in purgatory not a winner or loser

As if we look at Florida they didnt do anything

Would have traded Gudas and got a return as now he could leave for nothing

Underwhelming return on Chychrun , but at least they have a clear direction. 7 picks in the the first 3 rounds of this draft , prospect pool with multiple high end prospects

Mine are:

Nashville won, excellent value for assets

Ottawa won, whoever gets the best player wins. Bonus points for hella cheap

Toronto won. It is refreshing to see they were decisive and aggressive. Not all trades were excellent, but I applaud the spectacle. Ryan O’Rielly already having a hat trick is satisfying.

Oilers too. They got out of cap hell. Puljujarvi return is good. Ekholm will have an outsized impact. Hitting their cap space literally perfectly at 0 with Bjudgstadt is peak meme status.

Honorable mentions Bruins, Blues, Capitals, Stars

Losers

Vancouver, left so much in limbo, but also overpaid for Hronek, counting trading bo Horvat as part of this. They had time to explore everything. Maybe Hronek resolves some issues they have, and become a good deal over time. Schenn/Lazar deals were okay.

The teams I feel should have done more but it’s just an opinion are losers

Arizona is a loser - it isn’t even about Chychruns value, I’m gauging this on the ultimate goal of building a better team. They don’t care about that due to circumstances where money becomes the priority.

fLyers for not moving JVR for anything. They did well in both the MacEwen and Brown trades but not moving your best rental piece is tragic.

coyotes are tanking - their goal is to acquire picks and build through the draft. Their window to win won’t be for another 3 years when the top 6 looks something like this:

Keller-Cooley-Michkov
Maccelli-Hayton-Guenther

Yah I’m not complaining. I’ll take one boring day and 2 weeks of insanity over one decently exciting day anytime.

Trade may still have happened, just not announced ( CF still doesn't have the Klingberg to Minny trade )

If you all had to name 3 winners and 3 losers of the deadline, who would you name?

Winners

1. New York Rangers - adding guys like Tarasenko and Kane without losing anything significant other than one low first is a great feat in itself

2. Washington Capitals - just considering this...

Net losses
- Dmitry Orlov
- Garnet Hathaway
- Marcus Johansson
- Erik Gustafsson
- Lars Eller

Net additions
- Rasmus Sandin
- 2025 COL 2nd
- 2025 BOS 2nd
- 2024 BOS 3rd
- 2024 MIN 3rd

...is imo pretty great asset management. They capitalized on the value of these short term assets pretty well.

3. Minnesota Wild - adding some pretty known names like Klingberg, Nyquist and Sundqvist with the most valuable asset moved being a f*cking fourth round pick, as well as working as a broker in two deals to gain draft picks to maximize the salary cap usage is to me a really solid job.

Losers

1. Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks - let's be honest, did these guys make a single successful trade during this deadline. These two teams made a total 15 trades, and maybe 2 of them actually might have netted them something of value, those being the McCabe trade and Namestnikov trade.

2. Arizona Coyotes - a joke. The most successful individual deal from them was...brokering in the Kane trade to net a 3rd. Managed to convert two of the most highly coveted offensive D-men in Chychrun and Gostisbehere into a 1st, two 2nds and a 3rd round pick... Some reports even suggest they had to decline a offer that included Björnfot+potentially two first round picks, because they were worried of not having funds to re-sign Björnfot...just how bad is their economical state???

3. Philadelphia Flyers - should be retooling strongly, did absolutely f*ck all. Weren't even able to deal their pending UFAs for low picks. Sleeping.
