So, basically, Vegas thinks Reilly Smith is worth less than Teddy Blueger.

Given that the same draft pick from the Blueger trade is used in this trade.

Does Vegas resign Barbashev, or do they go after Zucker? This trade is raising some big questions.

Teams know Vegas had to make room and remember Smith had a no-trade list they had to follow. And then the teams that are not on his list have to have the $5m/yr room.

Vegas must be clearing cap for something. Interesting that they reacquired their own 2024 pick. Are they thinking of an offer sheet?

Good pickup for Pittsburgh. A top 6 winger on a reasonable contract that doesn't run past his 35th birthday.

If you're evaluating this transaction purely as an exchange of pieces, what Pittsburgh got is obviously the more valuable of the two.

But some pieces had to leave Vegas for the cap to work, so in this case, the space they made has value too. We'll see what they use it for.
