On the surface it seems like good value.

If Newhook takes the next steps, he comes in at a good price. If he doesn't, it's not a lot of money on the cap now that it'll be on the rise.

He's an RFA still when this contract expires as well, seems like a good deal for MTL.

he'll be a fun player to watch during the duration of his career. don't think he has the upside like the dach trade but I think it'll work out for montreal

I still don't get why the Habs wasted a first on NewHook. He reminds me of Alex Kerfoot

If Newhook becomes an Elite player as he was sought out to be, Hughes W.

If Newhook doesn’t, It’s only 3~ million against the cap.

Overall Hughes W.

Could be a great move for Mtl. If it pans out like the Kirby Dach project that would be the best. However, worst case scenario he stays a bottom six foward in which case for that salary that's not that bad, reminder that we paid paul byron 3.4M$ for 4 years back then tears of joy. Jokes aside, good and fair contract for me with good upside

$2.9 million is a fair deal for 30 points a season, so even if there's no improvement, it's not a bad deal. Furthermore, he's an RFA at the end of it, so there's a great chance you still get to keep the player if he continues to improve.

Absolutely win.

Would have thought 2 or 3 years tops. Coming into a new situation, shorter term makes sense if you think you'll explode.
Given the dollar value, no reason to lock in further than that, even if it means you are taking less on a shorter deal.
Low risk, high reward bet for Montreal. This contract won't hurt them, especially with the buyout coming in under $500k in a worst-case scenario.

Very smart signing here.
Cheap, medium term for a player who has upside.
Also an RFA at the end is huge

Contract comparables;
- Oskar Lindblom in 2020 signed 3x3 at 23 years old.
- Miles Wood in 2018 signed a 4x2.75 at 22 years old.

We can also name Kapanen and Zacha as comparables, all of the players mentioned were, at best, fringe half point per game players with upside at the time of the signing which fits with what Newhook showed during the last two seasons. Those deals came up to 3.45% of the total cap hit on average, Newhook's new deal places him at 3.47%.
This contract is right in line with other previous deals made with guys in his situation, a bridge with 3.45% cap hit. Like the others we'll see if the upside shows up but at this time it's market value, fair deal no W on either side.

Not a lot of comparables if you consider he can play center.

Mittelstadt got 3x$2.5M @ 22y.o.
Dach got 4x$3.4M @ 22y.o.

Great value. long term. Still RFA at the end. Couldn't ask for more.

2025 and 2026 will be the contender window for MTL.

I think he will surpass this value. Not a fan of the Habs, but a big fan of Newfoundland players. way to go Alex.

Newhook has seemed of proven he can at least be a 30 Point player and that's probably worth around 3m AAV, so to get 4 years at that price I'd say it's solid value for MTL, given his age he probably could geta little bit better.
