Stan Bowman Still Thinks The Blackhawks are cup contenders LMAO
Shaw is still 27 and good in the locker room. His work ethic is top notch and he will be a good role model for Chicago's young players. I see where they are coming from, but Montreal win.
...I think the Blackhawks made out better overall?
1) the Blackhawks wound up with 2 2nds and a 7th; the Canadiens got a 2nd, a 3rd, and a 7th
2) the Blackhawks got Alex DeBrincat with the Canadiens' 2016 2nd round pick
Considering Shaw had several concussions with Montreal, this is a great trade for the Habs. They almost get back what they paid for him in the first place.

Montreal got to see what Shaw's full potential was. He was a good locker room guy.
Chicago gets an overpaid middle 6 forward. He is great for the locker room, but his contract isn't the best.
It's virtually the same value except Chicago got a steal of a pick with that 2nd.
Also, let's not forget Shaw has had like 20 concussions.
Shaw is not worth this much value. They are getting themselves close to cap hell when they'll have to sign DeBrincat, Strome, after the season, and maybe Perlini this season. What is Bowman thinking?

Bergevin is a trade master. Has he ever lost a trade? That dude must have some good convincing skills.
We got good value and we can easily find a replacement for him tomorrow.
I don’t care about the value. It was the right move to make, but I feel sick knowing that Shaw is no longer a hab, he’s such a great person and teammate. He is instantly my favourite former hab.

Really? I think he was well loved and was a good hab, but if I had to choose a forward we lost, It was either him or Byron. I wish him all the luck in Chicago, but he has major injury problems and now we have cap space for tomorrow
MTL almost gets a full return of investment for what they gave to acquire Shaw, and manage to clear $4mill in cap space.
Does this mean Duchene to MTL?
This means we now have room for Both Lehkonen and Armia, as well as a get a top LHD. Perhaps there are bigger things happening, but I imagine that's what the cap space will go too.
I'm ok with this as a Hawks fan. $3.9M is probably still a bit much for what he provides, but contracts are getting crazy these days. The Hawks need grit and a versatile player. That's what Shaw provides.
Seems like a good trade from a MTL perspective. While he is a "Heart and Soul" player his time on the sidelines is becoming a bit of a concern. While he was a valuable contributor in his 63 games this past season he missed at least 24 games in each season in MTL, missing 31 2 years ago. I'm not sure what the cap space is for but all in all I think MTL comes out ahead.
