he's very bad, but if washington wants to draft in the top 5, it's a win for washington

Yeah. Everything he has done on the ice for the previous few years.
You're welcome to look up the analytics for him on your own time

He looked awesome in the play-offs against the Leafs
Maybe Washington wants him for the play-offs
You need big strong guys who punish smaller skilled guys

I don't hate this. On the 3rd pair, physical presence, could work out well. Vegas proved you need guys like this on your roster to win.

you are right, the only thing that matters in hockey is a few advance stats. you should be a gm.

At the trade deadline a retention spot is usually worth a 3rd so this means that the Habs traded Eddy for a 7th.
I think he is worth more than a 7th if he is recovered from his back injury.
So this is a loss for Montreal
But I understand why they did it --- they wanted to open a spot in the line-up for Xhekaj

The difference being is that Mtl can move on with their new leadership group and didn’t need to pay to do it. I I saw a lot of ACGMs with a 4th or 5th to move on from Eddy which was also my argument that being a broker for said retained money was the same. A 3rd is best case scenario for salary retention. You take that and move on with a clean slate. There is no loss for Hughes and the Habs here. Eddy wasn’t this terrible hockey player because of his injury issues he was an unknown commodity and the Habs need to start moving bodies just like the Preds have done except Hughes actually got assets back here. Hoffman/Armia must be next.,

He would've gotten a 1st, but Habs decided they'd cash in now because of Edmundson's back issues. Better something less now than nothing later. Also we have way to many NHL defenders.

You mean the ones that they said they might get at the TDL if he was healthy? They took a lesser return to clear a roster spot instead of keeping him (and risking him being injured again) in the hopes he is healthy and back to being the player he was, which Chiarot showed could fetch a first.

MTL wins because they get a decent pick for an abysmally bad player, but Habs fans lose because they spent like two years telling anyone who would listen that they'd get a 1st + for him.

Habs kinda screwed up by not moving him earlier, although not their fault he got hurt. Probably could've got a late 1st at some point (maybe 21-22) but settling for a 3rd isn't terrible, even if it's a bit below his previous market value.

Edmundson is bad. Don't let any habs fans tell you otherwise. Even half retained paying a 3rd in addition to a 7th is too much

What does Brian MacLellan and his team knows, right? Keep preaching!

I'm going back to my victory lap smile

Of course we trade for an injuried player

I think its a fair deal. If Eddy can stay healthy and find his 20-21 form, this will be a great deal for WSH. If he continues to battle health and play poorly, then it won't look so good. Although we're talking about a 3rd rounder and 1.75M in cap. This is a low risk deal for WSH IMO.

Not happy with this. But at least it’s not a 2nd round pick.

It's a fair deal for Washington. He'll be a great 3rd pairing defender and he's pretty cheap for what he does.

The player is good but his back is shot, his play style doesn't fit his body anymore which makes him look so bad. It's basically like a fast player having a busted ankle, it just isn't working anymore so good luck in Washington but I wouldn't be surprised if that's his last year in hockey.
31 years old with over 21 millions in the bank, take a bow and save your back.
