Holy mackinaw.

Good player, his physicality and defensive game are highly sought after. Thought there would be more roster turnover from the wild given how much youth they have, but it looks like the core is staying in tact

Wow, both Zuc and Foligno! I think it's a very smart move to keep Foligno in the fold however, AAV is a touch high. I feel like I'll be in the minority here but I still like this for MN. I would have liked it even more if it came in around $3.5m

Wonder what dirty secret he has on their GM to get this kind of deal done

That's quite a chunk of change for what he provides, considering it brings him over 35 years old before it ends.

Zuccarello's deal made sense but this is too much AAV (and maybe too much term)

This is every bit as bad as the Wilson signing. It may have less term but Foligno is 3 years older and has already fallen off significantly. Minnesota must like being mid because they're in for another 4 years of it.

Makes sense to give a 33 year old coming off a rough year a 4 year deal. Guerin with some questionable decisions.

Nothing but love for Foligno but it's a strange deal. He's not ready for the Chi-town1x$4M but this is too much.

When will the wild learn they aren’t winning with this core?

The contract doesnt start till next year- when he is 33. a 4 yr deal at 1mil would be questionable....this is just stupid. He went from 23 goals to 7, and while he plays a physical game- that doesnt lead to long careers. This is Jim Benning level of stupid.

Ouff.... I mean if you deploy him as a top 6, fine but hes not playing big minutes for the team and should play less as time goes by. I get hes a really liked glue guy with the team but damn, this doesn't make sense.

Why? Why not wait to see if he bounces back. This is way too much money for what he brought last year. If he continues to decline, then it will be a contract you have to buyout and pay assets to move.

Signing a 33 y.o. injury prone grinder still under contract for a full season to a 4x$4M contract is dumb.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Yes, 4m for four years is risky.

However, I think Foligno brings a lot more to the table than just grit. He is a leader and motivator and well respected in the locker room.

With Rossi moving up the depth chart Foligno might end up playing with Ek again. The GREEF line was one of the best defensive lines in the NHL the year before last year. Greenway can easily be replaced by someone else.

Foligno was injured for most of last year and seems fit in training camp. In the worst case he will end up in LTIR towards the end of the contract.

With the salary cap increasing and the penalties coming off the books the overall risk is not as big as people are saying. The Wild will have plenty of prospects on ELC or bridge deals meaning that spending 4m in a role player with grit and offensive upside is affordable.

In a time in which raw skill is as high as it is now in the league players that not only bring physicality will be valued. Just consider how much Tampa gave up for Jaenott.

I’m with the majority who think this is bad for the team. I get that he brings value beyond the numbers he puts up (which aren’t impressive), but he’s already 32, and they’re now committed to him for 5 more years. Not only that, they gave him a raise when he should be taking a pay cut, perhaps because they think he was underpaid in the past and they feel they need to make up for that, but teams don’t win that way.

They also added a no-move clause to his current contract. I didn’t know that was allowed. Minnesota got themselves in trouble by having too many old guys signed for too long. Now they risk the same thing happening again, just as they’re coming out of the fallout from last time.

Didn't this guy almost single handily cost the Wild that Stars series with his bonehead plays? Zucc is a really good signing comparatively speaking to whats available tho I dont get the rush in signing MR GRIT/60

Smells like Brendan Gallagher whom also was given term and money as payback for 'loyalty'
