Definitely gave up on cap hit for an extra few years of term.

Nice piece of business for COL but I’ll be interested to see what his play looks like on the tail half of this contract.

Amazing deal. Toews said he would take less to stay longer, and this is great for him and the organization.

Holy steal. Toews is easily one of the best defensemen in the league, the fact he got less than Rielly and Nurse is shocking. Such a huge win for the Avs

Wow, glad we got it done and he certainly deserves the extension and could have gotten a LOT more on the open market

That will use up about 75% of next year's cap increase so we will pretty much be running it back again.

However, with Pavel Francouz ($2 mil AAV) being UFA and most likely not resigned and the other $1 million in cap increase we are still going to be over the cap if/when Landeskog returns next year so there will have to be salary moving out next off-season for the captain to return.

Guessing we'll see a good amount of trade protection and perhaps some bonuses when the deets are revealed. The AAV is a steal though.

Super glad it got done. Toews is really important to the Avs.

Great deal for Avs but you got to think about when he turns 34 with 2-3 years left on that contract if he'll be worth that much anymore/perform good still with Makar

I’m glad that the Avalanche backed off their reported concerns about term.

It doesn’t make sense for them to worry much about going long with Toews when most of their core other than Makar is comparable to him in age. This team is a Cup contender right now, that’s what matters.

Your right maybe I'm lookin to far into the future but even for next season it posses the question if Landeskog is healthy they may be in trouble with cap and someone will be traded

Seems a good deal and manageable impact next season. If Landy is back, they'll have 9Fs, 5D, and 1G and $2.7M cap space next year. All of the major players signed and can probably manage next season with some bargains looking for a shot at the cup. Seems one move may be needed though. Lots of Girard talk but I could see Joey shipped out first.

Great signing for a great (and undervalued in many quarters) defenseman.

What would you have liked. Because the AVV is very low compared to his comps,

I'd short list Josh Manson and Ryan Johansen as cap casualties if/when Landeskog returns; also no way to bring back Drouin/Tatar unless it is league minimum.

or if the Drouin project works they'll trade away one of the overpaid 3rd liners and Drouin will get that contract and stay on the 1st line

Steal. Granted, he will have aged out by the end, but this is still an amazing deal for Colorado. Happy both parties settled on a price!

Core looks insane and the window is wide open. But I'm genuinely curious to know what type of dirt Burnaby Joe has on these players and agents that make them sign these deals as of late lmfao

Or (outside chance) he's the LH version of Brent Burns. Not very likely, of course, but with a player as good as Toews is, there is always a chance that he could be an ageless wonder. Don't ever expect it, but with really good players you can't discount that possibility.
