I love this for both sides so much. Fingers crossed Byram stays healthy, because man that Sabres blue line is going to be stacked
I do feel like Middelstadt gets overshadowed in this deal, he is an excellent pickup for Colorado and is going to turn a lot of heads with the better opportunity. Very savvy for both sides
Absolute steal for Buffalo. Don't see Mittelstadt as anything more than a fringe 2C. He'll be well insulated though. I see Byram as a future top pairing defender. Guess it's up to Buffalo to see how they can develop him though, doesn't have much opportunity.
Don't understand this from the Sabres perspective. Sure Byram is great, but they already have Dahlin and Power... They must be reasonably confident that one of those three will work well on their off side.
Both of these players needed fresh starts. Mittlestadt hasn't lived up to his full potential in Buffalo. Byram has been good but not the 4th overall potential. I feel like Avs win this trade but also hope both players play well on their new teams.
Thet get a true 2C and in my opinion one of the most underrated players in the league
Bryam injury concerns was a valid reason to move on from him, still D-man take longer to develop. Devon Toews is the best example of being patient with d-men prospects
Also Buffalo has 2 1st overall picks that are left handed d-man in Power and Dahlin so adding another one seems a little strange
Now if Bryam was right handed I would say this is fair, but for right now I say avs win.
I'll come back to this in 3-5 years and see how much has changed
Colorado wins imo. Byram has shown flashes but he hasn't played a full season yet. Never got more then 50 games in. If he can stay healthy and play the way he has, this will be a very fair deal.

Byram lost value with his injury history. You can't play 1st pairing minutes if you can't take a hit. There's risk here.

There's risk with every trade, who's to say Mittelstadt doesn't fizzle out? It's up to Buffalo to get Byram back on track (which should probably start with him playing on his proper side). Their recent track record with developing D have been great.

Common man, Let's be real here.
Byram has missed around 160 games in the last 4 seasons. Not "every trade" has that kind or risk.
