The 4 years tells me that Johnson wanted more than $1.1M AAV and Lou wanted to keep the cap hit low. Basically a smaller scale version of the Cizikas deal (6 years). I can't really come up with a better explanation. On paper, he looks like a league minimum player.

The 4 years is so no one claims him. Friedman reported that the Isles have avoided putting Johnston on waivers because they know there would be interest. He’ll likely spend the majority of the next 4 years in the AHL. This is just Lou taking care of his guy IMO.
There is no reason this poll should have this many "no" votes lmao
If he is bad, they can just send him down with 0 cap issues
This "bottom 6ers shouldn't be signed to long term deals" thing is really stupid

Why do I find the fact he has signed two fairly long term deals at about 1 mil per so funny. Just such a one of a kind deal. Good for him though, nice stability rare for guys at that cap hit.
Uncle Lou making sure his boys are taken care of long after he's gone.
But for real how did this old man sign him to a four year deal where he averaged like 20 something games a year and like 4 points a year, then turn around and give him a raise?
