The term on this deal is sketchy, although the AAV isn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Locking yourself in with a core that can't win is a great idea

This is about the going rate for a high end 2C so not a bad deal by any means.
I do wonder if it's the right deal for the Jets and if they wouldn't have been better off trading Helly and Scheifele out as to facilitate a quick retool.

big money into the mid and late 30s is always a massive risk. the good news is that he hasn't had any major injuries which could affect is longevity though.

Tremendously skilled player. I'm unconvinced that WPG can win with this Group. I'd probably have tried to retool around Morrissey, and looked at trading Scheifele. But then again I just really dislike the player, maybe Jets fans feel differently.

Back end of this contract will be horrific, but it'll be nice to see the old Jets core surrounded by some decent youth in the coming years. Jets are honestly an underrated team

I said the same thing on the Hellebuyck contract but, as a Jets fan, I’m on cloud 9! I understand people are gonna complain about the term but AAV is great and it’s extremely nice to see a talented player choose to extend in WPG! Awesome!

Yeah because that totally worked with the sharks and the predators and the wild and the flames and the Canucks, and the leafs

Honestly AAV is good when looking at comparisons. But term is pretty dang bad, particularly as he seems to have already started declining.

AAV is a bargain but term is a bit much. He's a solid #1C but I think it would've been better for both sides if Winnipeg dealt him to a team like Nashville(I would offer L'Heuruex, Afansyev, Carrier and a '25 1st) or Boston. This Jets team doesn't look like a cup contender compared to teams like Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota and even Nashville and St. Louis have better overall rosters IMO.

Where is the world did this come from? And here I thought he was the perfect C for Boston to snag…

Is it too much term? Maybe. But I'm just pumped we finally have core players staying!
The AAV might look bad for the last year or two, but the cap is expected to rise a lot, so I think it'll be fine.

Let's go Jets!

Can’t say anything bad about the player and Jets keep a leader but I must say the final years on this deal I can’t see aging well. Hope they do though.

I dont mind the caphit on both star players...but both terms are too long. I get that its hard to convince UFAs to choose Winterpeg...but I dont see enough good young players to make this team a true cup contender, more likely fighting for a playoff berth. So instead of retooling with a boat load of young players and picks....theyre chosing to be average for the next 7 years.
