Good value. Kubalik should mesh well with the Sens’ core and DeBrincat should do well with Larkin.

Kubalik could be a really good pick up for OTT. Fair deal all the way around.

I feel bad for Sens fans if Im being honest. It sucks DeBrincat in Ottawa ended this way, and the return is nothing to write home about. This is terrible for Dorian.

For what it's worth, Kubalik is very good if he's played right. Seems like a Senator through and through. Let's not forget, he was a calder finalist and looked good with Detroit. Not too sure about Sebrango, would've prefered the Sens to get a Berggren. Getting a pick bad isnt half bad either

Obviously Detroit wins the trade. Getting a guy who can net you 40 goals is a win, especially considering the contract the Wings got him at. It might not be the package you deserved for DeBrincat, and it is pretty terrible, but there is atleast some upside.

Hey you remember how Sens fans kept insisting that they'd get a dragon haul for Cat, and got really angry when you told them to temper expectations?

Good times.

For example from this Thread

Not nearly as much as Sens fans believe.

1 year of team control, 9 mil QA, a down year depressing his value, Dubois also being on the market - sapping his market, etc

They'll get a late 1st and a B+ if they're lucky

Quoting: csick
Lol what a terrible take. He submitted a list of 10 teams and assuming he gets traded to one of them , they’re gonna get a good return including roster players. They’re not taking a step back next year by acquiring a pile of magic beans

Anyway I actually think Dorian did alright for the situation - but it's still a clear win for DET - especially with limiting the deal to 4 years.

You know what's fun?

Ottawa got DeBrincat from Chicago. For 7th overall pick + later picks.

Detroit got Kubalik from Chicago. For free.

Detroit got DeBrincat from Ottawa. For Kubalik, nobody prospect, and a potentially low conditional first.

Holy f*cking L for Dorion, all thing considered.

Eh... could have been much worse.

Hate the Sebrango inclusion. Don't see him having any future on Ottawa's blueline. Targeting another prospect would have been better, even if he's an Ottawa kid.

Kubalik will (presumably) help address bottom six scoring, which is a huge need in OTT. Still question if he can really outscore his defensive woes, but frankly they just needs the goals.

If Ottawa is signing Tarasenko that'll definitely take the sting out of it a bit, but frankly if Ottawa has a contract offer he was willing to wait for, that's probably a sign that it's probably not gonna be a good deal for Ottawa.

Bright side is that Ottawa still has a better team with actual star power than Detroit.

Tbh the deal is pretty fair imo.

Dorion really set this team back tho when you consider what he paid for him, and his existing prospect pool is meh at best. All of their good young players are playing already and in a competive East they will have trouble. Dorion should've been more patient over these last 2 years before trading his top pick in 2 straight years.

In hindsight, yeah it doesn't look good for Dorion. But he had a chance to add a 40 goal scorer without touching his roster or prospects. I think it's a gamble worth taking, just didn't work out.

Salvage a disaster. The problem existed when you traded, got him, and didn't want to make him key component - you gave monies to Giroux and Stutzle. Shame on you. You want me to be happy because your division competitors dictate whether you can have Boston's 25 first round pick or Detroit's 2024 and your competitor who's trying for the same playoff spots get to decide.??? What a Joke.

Not giving up Berggren or veleno was big, hate to see kubby go. But they have enough to convince kane. Not saying it is going to happen but.... if you can convince him now that Cat is here. He wouldn't cost as much as people think.

I mean if you really think about it. It’s somewhat similar value to what they paid for him to begin with. They get a first that has the potential to be in the mid 15-25 range in a decent draft. They get Kubalik who is probably valued around a late first, early second round pick with his low cap hit, they get Sonrango who was a third round pick in 2020 and was great in the world juniors. Then they get a fourth which closes the gap even more.
